In mid-August, groundbreaking officially took place for the Southold Town Volunteer Firefighters memorial in Cochran Park in Peconic.

In the coming weeks progress will continue with concrete work and the addition of the stone monuments and brick work.

The groundbreaking marks the culmination of several months of hardwork and planning by the Southold Town Fire Chiefs Council and the Southold Town VolunteerFirefighters Memorial Committee.

Members of the community are invited to become a part of this project by participating in the "Buy a Brick" fundraiser to help raise funds for the memorial.
