November 2, 2015

Early Monday Morning around 1:45 am Cutchogue Firefighters were called to assist the Mattituck Fire Department at the scene of a working house fire on at the end of Stanley Rd. in Mattituck.

Police and Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy fire consuming a large two-story residence that was located in a private cul-de-sac.

First arriving fire and police units were confronted with well advanced fire that was fully engulfing the home. Radiant heat and embers from the blaze were were beginning to threaten a neighboring home and properties.

The Cutchogue FD was requested to respond to the scene with an engine to assist with battling the blaze.

Mattituck Firefighters arrived on scene and began attempting to knock down the fire using water supplied from a nearby hydrant. Additional water was supplied to the scene by Mattituck FD and Jamesport FD tankers.

With the water supply established, firefighters went into a defensive operation, using master streams from Mattituck's Tower Ladder 8-6-8 to fight the fire from above.

CFD firefighters manned an additional 2 1/2" handline until the fire was knocked down and assisted MFD firefighters with overhaul and cleanup before being released from the scene nearly 2 1/2 hours later.

Mattituck Firefighters would remain on scene well into the early morning dousing any remaining hotspots.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries reported.

As is routine, the exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is currently being investigated by the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad.

The Jameport FD additionally provided a stand-by crew that was stationed at the Mattituck FD in the event of any other alarms during the incident.
