Lightning Strikes Nassau Point Home

Early Tuesday Morning a series violent thunderstorms passed though the Eastern long Island region.

At 4:53 a.m. the Cutchogue Fire Department was dispatched to 4525 Wunneweta Rd. in the Nassau Point Section of Cutchogue for an Automatic Fire Alarm.

Upon the arrival of the first arriving units it was discovered that the home had been struck by lightning. Lightning had struck the large masonry chimney. The force of the strike had shattered the chimney and spread stones and bricks about the back yard.

Firefighters arrived and made entry to the home and checked for any fire or problems in the home.

Miraculously No other problems were found.

the home was secured and firefighters cleared the scene in approximately 45 minutes.

The Southold Town Building Department was notified to respond to check the stability of the Chimney.

Units: Chiefs 8-5-30, 31 & 32 Engine 8-5-4, 8-5-1, Heavy Rescue 8-5-5
