A solemn procession made its way down Main Road from Cutchogue to Mattituck this morning for the funeral of Jason R. Cooper of New Suffolk. Cooper died after being involved in an accident at his family home June 7. He was 47.
Over a hundred Air National Guardsmen and dozens of first responders lined the street as the fire truck bearing Cooper’s coffin pulled up to Mattituck Presbyterian Church.
Cooper was a lieutenant of the Cutchogue Fire Department and a member of the New Suffolk school board. He worked as an aircraft maintenance supervisor for the New York Air National Guard and was a military veteran.
He leaves behind a wife and three children.
Interment with military honors was held at the Cutchogue Cemetery

Shortly after Jason's passing, fellow firefighters from around the area showed gestures of support and sympathies. The support we have received from our community and fellow firefighters is truly remarkable. We would like to offer our sincere gratitude to everyone.
Emergency calls don’t stop coming in even during the most trying of times. We would like to acknowledge the following departments for providing Fire and Ems coverage to the citizens of Cutchogue and New Suffolk while our firefighters attended the funeral services or helped to give him a proper send-off.
We will be forever grateful.
