Cutchogue joined fire departments from across Suffolk County in Riverhead Saturday for the Riverhead Fire Department's annual motorized drill competition.
The event features competition in various fire service-related skills events and was held at the RFD training gounds on Route 58.
Fifteen teams competed in the tournament, which consisted of 8 events. The West Sayville Flying Dutchmen came out on top in first place with 24 points this year earning them the Richie “Soup” Ligon Trophy.
This trophy was dedicated to Richie, by the Riverhead FD who was Riverhead’s first black fireman, who died earlier this year. He was a respected veteran of the department, a dear friend of CFD and known throughout NYS for his personality and involvement in numerous organizations. A true ambassador of the Fire Service.
The Panthers placed 11th overall. Hosts Riverhead Ironmen, the only other local team to compete, placed 10th.
Congratulations to the top five teams: 1st place: West Sayville 2nd place: Central Islip 3rd place: North Lindenhurst 4th place: Farmingville 5th place: Bay Shore
Thanks to Riverhead FD and the Ironmen for a great day.
