His firefighting career at CFD began in 1991 as a charter member of Cutchogue Fire Department Juniors. He would join the department in 1993 following in his Father Ex-Chief Francis McCaffery's footsteps, carrying on a family tradition. Drew was a instrumental part of the team during some of the Panthers most successful years, that included being the teams hydrant man during the 1996 season when the panthers returned to the track as a motorized team. That same year they were crowned the Suffolk County Total Points Champions for the Efficiency contest.

For many years He was involved in the Suffolk County Parade and Drill Team Captains Association and served as the organizations president over the past year making many friends with fellow firefighters thoughout Suffolk County and New York State.

What a lovely tribute from your Cutchogue FD brothers and sisters. While I didn't know you as a firefighter, I did know you from FRES. One of the finest Dispatchers I had the pleasure to work with, and a true gentleman. You were the kind of person who touched the heart of everyone who ever met you. Rest In Peace Drew, and my condolences to your wife Lauren, your family and your Fire Department family.
