CFD Responds to Excavator Fire

Early Tuesday morning at 2:11 a.m. the Cutchogue Fire Department was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire at a construction site near Depot Lane.

Southold Town Police Department alerted the fire department when police officers on routine patrol discovered the fire.

First arriving units found an excavator fully engulfed in flames, at the construction site of the new Harvest Pointe Condominium complex in Cutchogue.

The flames were also beginning to damage other nearby construction equipment.

Firefighters arrived and deployed several handlines in order to extinguish the flames that was being fueled by the fluids in the excavator.

Firefighters were on scene for approximately 2 hours.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by Southold Town Police Department.
