CFD welcomes 2 Junior Firefighters as its Newest Members

On Thursday night at its regular monthly meeting, the Cutchogue Fire Department welcomed in the second of two past and present CFD Junior Firefighters that have recently joined the ranks of CFD.

In December, Jacqueline Berkoski, a past Junior Firefighter was officially sworn in to the department at the regular company meeting.

Jackie spent several years in the Juniors program, before attending college and returning home after graduation.

She is a second generation firefighter who will now follow the in the footsteps and serve along side her father, Ex-Chief Antone E. Berkoski.

Thursday, the second Junior Firefighter Kacper Michalak, was officially sworn into the department by Chief Behr as the newest probationary member.

Kacper is also a second-generation firefighter that will serve alongside both his mother, Rescue Squad Lt. / EMT-cc Kate Michalak and his father FF. Jack Michalak.

Kacper spent several years in our CFD Junior Firefighter program before becoming old enough to join the Department.

Both represent the 582nd and 585th members to ever serve the Cutchogue Community.

The Cutchogue Fire Department Junior firefighters program was origianlly established in 1991. The goal of this dynamic and interactive program is to introduce the youth of our community to many aspects the Fire and EMS service with the hope that someday these youths will continue onward to become the future Volunteers serving our community.

The group meets on the 2nd Wednesday evening of each month at the Cutchogue Fire House.

During each session the Junior firefighters will hold a monthly Business meeting or hold a training session. Senior advisors are present at all functions to insure proper training and supervision during activities. Juniors will have the unique oppurtunity to work side by side with senior Firefighters and Medical Personell in both hands-on and classroom activities designed for our Junior firefighters.

The program is open to any boy or girl who resides in the Cutchogue Fire District and is between the ages of 11 and 17 years of age
