As we enter daylight savings time, the Cutchogue Fire Department reminds residents to check their smoke detectors. They truly do save lives.

This was evident on Friday morning when CFD Volunteers were alerted to a structure fire at the Castello Di-Borghese Vineyard located on Route 48 in Cutchogue at approximatley 11:00 a.m.

Workers from the winery, called 911 reporting they heard the smoke detectors sounding and discovered smoke filling the garage area of the building.

A small electrical fire was quickly located by the staff and extinguished just as firefighters arrived. The fire was found to be caused by an extension cord powering a refrigerator and caused minimal damage.

Firefighters checked the walls and immediate for any fire extension and stood by until the smoke was cleared from the building

Firefighters were on scene for 20 minutes.
