July 8, 2018

On Wednesday July 4th at 1:01 p.m. the Cutchogue Fire Department was activated to respond to a reported house fire on New Suffolk Avenue in New Suffolk.

An alert citizen noticed flames coming from the front of the home and quickly alerted the homeowners who were in the rear yard celebrating the holiday.

CFD firefighters responded and arrived to find an active fire in the wall of the home that was beginning to travel up the walls into the attic and upper part of the home.

The flames were quickly extinguished and firefighters checked the home for extension.

As Firefighters searched the home high temperatures and smoke was found in the attic, and extension of fire was found in the walls and floor joists near the point of origin.

The fire was determined to be electrical in nature and began near an exterior electrical outlet on the front of the home.

Firefighters were on scene for approximately 1 hour, clearing the home of smoke and ensuring that the fire was completely extinguished.

Thanks to the actions of the citizen, damages to the home were minimized.

This would be the 2nd of 4 calls that CFD would respond to during the day.
