A year has now past since the passing of Ex-Chief and Commissioner Andrew McCaffery last August.
To help keep his memory alive, the members of the Cutchogue Fire Department and the Panthers Drill team recently made a special dedication at the Suffolk County Parade and Drill Team Captains Associations Annual Motorized Tournament on July 13th that was held in Central Islip.
At the time of his passing, in addition to being an Ex-Chief and Commissioner of the Cutchogue Fire Department, Drew was the current President of the SCPDTCA. For many years he was involved in the organization making many friends with fellow firefighters throughout Suffolk County and New York State.
CFD dedicated a special leg trophy that was built in Drew's memory for the Motor Pump Contest. For the next ten years, the perpetual leg trophy will be passed on to the winner of the contest each year, before eventually returning home to Cutchogue in 2028.
The trophy built by East End Sporting Goods incorporated a picture of Drew and a special hose coupling used by him, which represents his dedication to the CFD Panthers Drill Team throughout the years.
This year's drill was held at the Central Islip Fire Department. The Motor Pump Contest finished with a tie for first place, with the winners being the North Lindenhurst Piston Knockers and the Bays Shore Redskins.
Members of the CFD Panthers including Charlie Witczak, Adam Kaelin and Bill Burns made the presentation of Drew's trophy to both of the teams at the conclusion of the contest.
Thank you to East End Sporting Goods in Mattituck for your help on this special project. |
