On New Years Day at about 1420 hours, the Cutchogue Fire Department was dispatched at the request of the Southold Town Police to rescue 2 windsurfers that appeared to be in distress in the Peconic Bay North of Robins Island in New Suffolk.

The windsurfers were navigating through Peconic Bay when they encountered mechanical issues and fatigue.

Southold Town Police Marine 4 while on routine patrol on land came across the incident and observed the 2 subjects clinging to their windsurfers attempting to paddle to shore.

The Cutchogue Fire Department along with the Southold Town Police responded with boats to rescue the windsurfers and transport them back to shore.

The two were located and transported to the New Suffolk Boat ramp where they were met by emergency medical personnel.

Both were wearing safety equipment and appeared to be uninjured and were evaluated then released at the scene.

This would be the third of 5 calls that CFD volunteers would respond to throughout New Years Day.

Later in the evening CFD responded to a 3rd Automatic Fire Alarm of the day and then assisted the Jamesport FD at a working house fire, making for a busy start to 2019.
