At 5:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, the Cutchogue Fire Department was dispatched to the intersection of County Route #48 and Cox Lane for a reported Motor Vehicle Accident.

The first units on scene were confronted with a two car collision resulting in the driver of a 4-door sedan becoming trapped.

Firefighters and EMT's arrived and went to work treating the injured parties, while the crew from Heavy Rescue 8-5-5 utilized the Jaws of Life to extricate the occupant by removing the drivers door from the vehicle.

Once freed from the vehicle the patient was transported by ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. The occupants of the second vehicle were uninjured.

A portion of route 48 was closed for while crews operated at the scene.

CFD Fire police units diverted traffic to other area roads during this time.

Mattituck Fire Department assisted at the scene with an ambulance.

The cause of the crash is currently being investigated by the Southold Town Police Department.

All units cleared the scene just after 0630 hours.
