On Friday afternoon at about 3pm CFD Volunteers responded to a Motor Vehicle Accident on County Route 48 near the intersection of Tuthill Lane.

Responders found a two car rear end collision with injured occupants.

The collision occurred when an eastbound driver failed to realize traffic was stopped for a stopped school bus, and rear ended a stopped vehicle.

The force of the impact forced the stopped vehicle into a nearby vineyard field.

CFD utilized both of its ambulances to transport two patients to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries.

Firefighters checked both vehicles hazards and controlled the leaking fluids using speedy-dry.

One lane of east bound Route 48 was closed for approximately 30 minutes until the vehicles were removed from the roadway.

As the school year winds down, the Cutchogue Fire Department would like to remind all drivers to be aware of the flashing lights of stopped school buses.
