With the combination of beautiful weather and many people traveling to the east end of Long Island, the July 4th holiday weekend turned out to be a busy one for the CFD Volunteers. Beginning Thursday evening and ending Sunday the CFD responded to 18 calls for service over the four day weekend.

The busy weekend began Thursday morning as members were preparing for the annual New Suffolk 4th of July parade. CFD was dispatched for an automatic Alarm on Old Harbor Rd. Firefighters were in the area lining up for the parade and quickly responded and found a false alarm.

At 11:00 a.m. over 40 members turned out and participated in the New Suffolk 4th of July parade, marching through the streets of the tiny waterfront hamlet of New Suffolk in celebration of our great nation..

Following the annual New Suffolk Parade, CFD responded to 5 more calls in the afternoon and evening that included an Automatic Fire Alarm, a Motor Vehicle Accident, EMS Alarm, Garbage can fire, and a Large Debris Fire at the Town Landfill that would require assistance from our neighboring departments. Later that evening, members gathered at the firehouse at 8pm for the regular monthly Meeting of the Fire Company.

On Friday Volunteers responded to 5 calls for service that included 4 EMS Alarms and 1 Automatic Fire Alarm.

Saturday brought 4 EMS Alarms.

The weekend would end on Sunday with another 3 calls. These included 2 EMS Alarms and a Mutual Aid response to the Riverhead Fire Department.

On Sunday afternoon, a large brush Fire was burning in the Manorville / Eastport area requiring a large response from Suffolk County Departments. Cutchogue Fire Departments Brush Truck was requested to respond and stood by and staged at The Riverhead Fire Department in case additional trucks were needed. A short while into the incident CFD was requested to respond to Riverhead FD with an engine to provide stand-by coverage for Riverhead while they operated at the Brush Fire. Crews stood by along with the Mattituck FD in Riverhead for 5 hours until the incident was placed under control.
