On Saturday Morning at approximately 7:45 a.m. the Southold Fire Department was dispatched to respond to a reported structure fire at a storage building located at the intersection Youngs and Hummel Avenues in Southold.

An alert neighbor dialed 911 when he witnessed smoke coming from the large warehouse style building.

The building originally was built and operated as a lumber yard for many years and most recently was utilized by numerous small businesses and contractors for storage.

Southold Fire Department arrived to find a working fire in a section of the building.

The Cutchogue Fire Department was requested to assist at the scene with an engine. Engine 8-5-4 made the response.

Once on scene CFD firefighters were put to work assisting with extinguishing any remaining fire and overhauling the loft area of the building.

Crews operated on scene for over an hour.

Quick actions by firefighter were able to confine the damage to a small portion of the building.

No injuries were reported.
