At 7:39 PM Monday evening the Cutchogue Fire Dept was called out to a motor vehicle accident dispatched as "Car vs. Tree". The accident happened in front of the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Free Library near the corner of Route 25 and Case's Lane.
When firefighter and EMS personnel arrived at the scene they found a Jeep Grand Cherokee with severe front end damage, airbags deployed, and its lone occupant sitting on the bench in front of the library. The patient was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by the CFD Rescue Squad via Ambulance 8-5-17.
The crew from Heavy Rescue Truck 8-5-5 cut power to the vehicle by removing the battery cables and then checked the vehicle for additional hazards and leaking fluids. The crew from Engine 8-5-4 were there ready to extinguish any potential fires. CFD Fire Police units closed traffic through the village until the vehicle was towed away and the roadway cleared of fluids and debris.
A total of forty one members responded to this incident, and were at the scene for approximately one hour. The ambulance returned from the hospital and was back in service at 8:54 PM.
