On Sunday Morning around 3:31 am Cutchogue Firefighters were called to assist the Southold Fire Department at the scene of a working house fire on Goose Creek Lane Ext. in Southold.

Police and Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy fire consuming a two-story residence that was located near the end of a private road.

The Cutchogue FD was requested to assist at the scene with a Rapid Intervention Team (R.I.T.) in the event of any firefighter emergencies. The crew made the response aboard Heavy Rescue truck 8-5-5.

Southold Firefighters arrived on scene and began attempting to knock down the fire using available tank water and water supplied from their tanker until a sustainable water supply could be established.

Firefighters had to lay supply hose to the nearest hydrant that was located over 2600 feet from the home in order to supply water to the scene.

Once the water supply was established, firefighters went into a defensive operation, using multiple handlines and master stream from Southold's engine 8-4-4 to fight the fire. Additional handlines were used to protect the neighbors home that was in close proximity to fire.

CFD Engine 8-5-4 was dispatched to the scene as an additional engine. Upon arrival, 8-5-4 was given the assignment of standing by the hydrant in the event there was a need to boost the water pressure of the hoses supplying the fire scene

The Greenport FD also provided an engine and manpower to assist at the scene.

Cutchogue firefighters stood by until the fire was knocked down and assisted SFD firefighters with overhaul and cleanup before being released from the scene nearly 4 hours later.

Southold Firefighters would remain on scene well into the morning dousing any remaining hotspots.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire, and there were no injuries reported.

As is routine, the exact cause is currently being investigated by the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad and the cause of the fire is not considered to be suspicious.

During the fire Jamesport Fire Department Stood by at the Cutchogue firehouse with an Engine in the event of other fire alarms, while Mattituck FD handled an EMS Alarm that occurred in the Cutchogue District.
