CFD Responds to Afternoon House fire

A fire broke out in a Cutchogue home Wednesday afternoon.

The Cutchogue Fire Department was activated at 12:37 p.m. for a structure fire in an unoccupied home on Bridge Lane in Cutchogue.

A neighbor called 911, reporting that she saw smoke and flames from the deck of her neighbors home.

Upon arrival firefighters found a small fire on an outside deck and upon further investigation, fire was discovered burning in the basement, kitchen and dining room areas, as well.

Firefighters from Engine 8-5-4 and Ladder 8-5-3, started an interior attack and quickly extinguished the flames.

A majority of the Fire damage was confined to the kitchen and dining room area, and required extensive overhaul to check for any remaining fire in the walls.

The remainder of the home suffered extensive smoke and heat damage.

Firefighters were on scene for approximately 2 hours

Water was supplied to the scene by engine 8-5-1 from an electric fire well in the area.

One Cutchogue firefighter sustained a hand injury and was transported to the hospital by Cutchogue FD ambulance where he was treated and released..

The Mattituck Fire Department sent one engine to the scene and Southold Fire Department responded with a rapid intervention team. Greenport firefighters stood by at Cutchogue Fire headquarters with an engine crew and an ambulance.

The Suffolk County Police Department's arson squad is investigating the cause of the fire.
