Mutual Aid - CFD Responds to Assist at Greenport Blaze

Area Firefighters responded as to a fast moving fire that destroyed two Greenport homes yesterday morning.

On Friday morning At about 8:30 a.m. Cutchogue Firefighters were called to assist the Greenport Fire Department as they responded to a reported structure fire on Webb Street. Greenport FD units arrived to find two adjacent two story homes, and a Motor Home simultaneously well involved with fire. CFD Chief Wade Manwaring immediately called for assistance from his neighboring Departments requesting additional manpower and equipment.

The Cutchogue Fire Department responded with Heavy Rescue 8-5-5 with their Rapid Intervention Team, a group of specially trained firefighters who are specifically designated for the rescue of firefighters should an emergency occur at the fire scene.

Once on scene Cutchogue Firefighters stood at the ready, and worked along side GFD and other neighboring fire departments helping battle the blazes in the two homes..

Firefighters were on scene for over 2 hours battling the blaze and returned home to around 10:30 am

Cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is currently under investigation.

Firefighters from Greenport, Southold, Cutchogue, East Marion, helped at the scene or provided stand-by coverage.
