Last Sunday CFD presented several special awards at the Annual family Picnic. With the usual installation dinner being put on hold due to the pandemic, the picnic provided a great opportunity to honor our members in front of family and friends.
This year CFD is honored to recognize members that have reached significant milestones in their firefighting career.
After welcoming everyone Chief Amos Meringer made special presentations to the following members:
Veteran Firefighter John Zaveski was honored for celebrating his 70th year of active service.
Ex-Chief James Fogarty Sr. & Firefighter Tom Roslak were honored for 60 years of service.
Ex-Chief Fran McCaffery Jr. & Firefighter Gregory Boyd were honored for 50 years of service.
Following ovations, they were all presented plaques by the Chiefs and Captain in recognition of these milestones in their firefighting career. These items only serve as a small token of appreciation and thanks for their lifetime of service to the CFD.

In addition to the above longevity awards several special awards were presented to several members for service to the Department over the past year. The CFD is pleased to honor the following members:
2020 Firefighters of the Year – Ex-Chief Thomas Shalvey Jr.
2020 EMS Providers of the Year – Kate Michalak
Chief Shalvey along with Kate Michalak who served as the Captain of the Rescue Squad are being honored for their tireless dedication and leadership over the past year, guiding the department through unprecedented times during the Covid-19 pandemic.
2020 Probationary Member of the Year – Timothy Winters

The CFD ladies Auxiliary also honored two of their members for reaching their 50th year as members of the CFD ladies Aux. Both Susie Smith and Nancy Dermody were presented gifts by president Maryann Boken..
The Commissioners of the Cutchogue Fire District, the Chiefs, Officers and Members of the Cutchogue Fire Department United Fire Co. No. 1, and the Cutchogue Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary would like to extend our congratulations and thanks to all of the afternoons honorees and award winners.
