CFD Responds to Reported Chimney Fire

On Saturday Afternoon at 1:02 p.m. CFD Volunteers responded to a reported Chimney Fire at a residence on Old Menhaden Rd.d in the Nassau Point section of Cutchogue.

911 calls reported large amounts of black smoke coming from the home's chimney.

Firefighters arrived finding a moderate smoke condition throughout the home and quickly confirmed that there was malfunctioning Oil Burner.

After shutting down the furnace, Firefighters laddered the home to inspect the chimney from the roof and found a clogged chimney vent.

Using gas meters crews checked the home's interior and found moderate levels of carbon monoxide as a result of the smoke.

Firefighters utilized fans to remove the smoke and ventilate the home to ensure that the home was safe for the homeowners to re-enter.

Crews were on scne for approximatley 40 minutes.
