Over the course of the weekend members of Cutchogue Fire Department particpated in a series of training sesions that sharpened and refreshed their skills. These are all part of our ongoing training training programs that continues to take place throughout the year.

On Saturday a group of our probationary members travelled to Greenport to participate in a joint training with other members of their Firefighter class to practice thier basic skills in preperation of thir upcoming exams and practical evolutions. Probationary members Lexington Horton, Ethan Helgins, and Mike Flipkoski spent several hours practiing with ladders, forcible entry and SCBA emergencies.
Keep up the hard work guys! Thanks to GFD for hosting this session.

On Sunday morning, new and existing drivers and apparatuis operators gathered at Cutchogue East School to particpate in a Driver Training / EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operations Course) Refresher course. 15 drivers completed a hands on driving course that tested thier basic driving skills on a variety of apparatus. All of the skills and stations were designed to reinforce the safe operation and backing of our apparatus both in emergency and non-emergency situations. The drill lasted approximatley 2 hours. Thank you to Firehosue Training Plus for assisting us with this training.

Then on Monday evening, 25 CFD firefighters and resuce personnell particiapated in a CPR refresher course hosted at CFD. The Topics covered over the course of the night covered CPR / AED, Choking, Narcan Administration, Basic First Aid skills and Firefighter Down (CPR) Procedures. Thank you to our In-house AHA instructors Chief William Brewer and EMT Patrick Kaelin for teaching the course.

Ironically these skills were put to successful use the following evening as CFD firefighters and STPD units responded to and active choking / EMS call. Responding units were succesfully able to clear an airway of a choking victim after a series of abdominal thrusts. Good job by 2nd Asst. Chief Dinizio and all of the other responders.

Thank you to all of the members who dedicate thier time came out to the training sessions.

Units: CFD - Tradition - Pride - Dedication
