CFD Responds to Smoke in the Building

On Friday Morning at 5:48 a.m. the Cutchogue Fire Department was alerted to respond to an Automatic Fire Alarm at 50 Commerce Drive in Cutchogue at a local self storage facility.

First Arriving units arrived and after gaining access to the building discovered a smoke condition inside the lobby of a large two story storage buidling. With this information the alarm was reactivated and upgraded to a structure fire.

Firefighters arriving arriving on Quint 8-5-3 were deployed to begin searching the building for the source of the smoke. Additional firefighters from Engine 8-5-4 and Rescue 8-5-5 weres assigned to frocible entry duties and water supply if needed.

Several locks to individual storage units had to be cut and forced open to gain access to several areas of the building to locate the source of the smoke. Firefighters used rotary sawsand cut off tools to cut several locks.

After and extensive search of the building to ensure there was no fire, the source of the smoke was traced to an electrical issue.

Crews operated on scene for over 1.5 hours.
