Mourning a Loss: 78 year member Joseph S. Zuhoski Sr. Answers his last Alarm

It is with deep regret that the Chiefs announce that 78 year member Joseph S. Zuhoski Sr. has answered his last alarm.

Joe Sr. passed away peacefully at his home early Saturday Morning surrounded by family, just a few weeks shy of his 96th birthday.

Joe Sr. Joined CFD in 1945 as our 153rd member and leaves behind a legacy of family service to CFD.

He is the father of Ex-Chief/Ex Commissioner Joseph S. Zuhoski Jr.
Grandfather to CFD Firefighters Joseph S. Zuhoski III & Jennifer Zuhoski
Great Grandfather to CFD Junior Firefighter Joseph S. Zuhoski IV

Joe served as Assistant to the Lieutenant of the High Pressure Truck in 1946.and was elected as Lieutenant of the Hose Car from1947 through 1949.

Later, he was elected as Chief Driver of Pump #2 and served in this capacity from 1966 through 1969.

Joe was an active member of our early racing team and long time supporter of the modern day Panthers Drill Team.

After his active years Joe continued to take part in many of the Department and Company functions. As each August came around Joe was part of our Chicken BBQ corn husking crew and faced a 6000 ear mountain of corn.

He enjoyed the friendship and camaraderie of his Brother Firemen and up until recently kept n touch at the morning coffee breaks and the meeting night feeds.

Funeral Details are as follows:

Viewing - Tuesday March 7th at Defriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck
2-4 pm and 7-9 pm

Firematic service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
All firefighters attending are asked to attend in class A uniforms.

Funeral Service with FD honors will be on Wednesday at 10:00hrs at the Our Lady of Ostrabrama Church Depot Lane Cutchogue

Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

The Chiefs and Officers would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to the entire Zuhoski family and all of his friends here at CFD. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
