On Sunday Morning at 8:00 am members of CFD joined together with members of other North Fork Fire Departments for a water rescue drill hosted by Southold Fire Department

The scenario based training took place at Ceach Beach in Southold.

After a briefing , units were dispatched to a simulated emergency that was reported to take place off Cedar Beach

The scenario was based upon a report of an overturned kayaker in distress.

Responders were tasked with locating the patient, deploy swimmers to package him on a backboard, and then extricate him from the water onto the boats.

Both Southold and Cutchogue Fire Departments deployed their inflatable boats from the beach.

The teams working together were able to quickly locate the victims and coordinated their transport to shore.

The teams practiced the evolution several times with each taking turns as the primary and support boats.

The drill lasted approximately 2 hours and also included members of the Southold Town Police Drone Unit and Greenport FD.

The members of CFD would like to thank the Southold Fire Department for the opportunity train with you and become familiar with waters in our mutual aid areas.

Members of the CFD Water Rescue team continue to train and be prepared for the upcoming summer season.

Earlier this week on Wednesday evening, members went underway with CFD's larger primary response boat for orientation and area familiarization in the areas around New Suffolk.
