On Sunday Morning at 9:00 am members of CFD joined together with members of other North Fork Fire Departments for a water rescue drill hosted by Southold Fire Department

This is the latest of a series of joint monthly drills hosted and coordinated by the North Fork Fire Departments. The skills based training began near Goose Creek Beach in Southold.

After a briefing, units participated in a series stations that focused on basic skills related to victim retrieval and recovery, both from shore and from boats.

Responders were tasked with locating the patient, and then extricate him or her from the water onto the boats.

The teams practiced the evolutions several times with each taking turns practicing the skills.

Some of the skills that were covered included rescue swimming, backboarding, throw bags and throwable devices, and boat maneuvering. All of these skills will be incorporated in to a future drill.

The drill lasted approximately 2 hours and included East Marion, Greenport, Southold, and Cutchogue Fire Departments.

Drills such as these allow responders to become familiar with the equipment and capabilities of all of our mutual aid partners.

The members of CFD would like to thank the Southold Fire Department for coordinating this month's drill and look forward to future trainings.

Members of the CFD Water Rescue team continue to train and be prepared for the summer season.
