On Friday Morning the Cutchogue Fire Department was alerted to respond to an Automatic Fire Alarm at 50 Commerce Drive in Cutchogue at a local self storage facility. After gaining access to the building, first arriving units discovered a smoke condition inside the basement of a large two story storage building. With this information the alarm was reactivated and upgraded to a structure fire. Firefighters arriving arriving on Engine 8-5-4 were deployed to begin searching the building for the source of the smoke. Additional firefighters from Engine 8-5-1 were assigned to various duties and water supply if needed. After a search of the building to ensure there was no fire, the source of the smoke was traced to an electrical motor in the sprinkler room. Crews operated on scene for approximately 1 hour and used a fan to remove any smoke from the building. |
