On Thursday June 19th members of the Cutchogue Fire Department gathered at HQ for the regular monthly training night. Each month on the third Thursday of the month CFD has a dedicated in-house training night that covers a variety of topics
This month's training focused on the use of Power saws utilized in Roof Ventilation and forcible entry on commercial-style doors.
22 Firefighters were on hand for the night's training.
The drill began with a review of power saw operations and the responsibilities and importance of the ventilation and forcible entry teams.
After a review of the techniques and tools, Firefighters had a chance to practice in a series of evolutions
First, using an axe and halligan tool, commonly referred to as a set of "Irons", firefighters forced open a series of doors using conventional techniques on a forcible entry simulator.
Then participants practiced their skills with the power saw, cutting at a series of different stations simulating different locks and styles of metal doors.
Firefighters also preformed a series of hands-on evolutions using the power saws on CFD's roof simulator.
Each month throughout the year we host a variety of training sessions that help us refine our skills. These drills and trainings are in addition to a schedule of Live-fire & hands on training that is held at the Suffolk County Fire Academy.
Thank you to everyone who came out and to the team from firehouse training +, for a good night of training.
