| It is with Great sadness that the Cutchogue Fire Department announces the passing of 54 Year member, Firefighter Gregory Boyd. Greg passed away peacefully on November 7th surrounded by family. He was 80 years old.
He joined the Cutchogue Fire Deptartment in October of 1971 and was the Department’s 318th member.
Greg was a mentor, always providing sensible dialogue and humor around the firehouse. His dedication to the Cutchogue Fire Department for the past 54 years is no less than impressive.
He became Chief Driver of “Pump 3” in 1974, his first elected position in the Fire Company, a position he would hold for the next 6 years until he was elected as the truck's Lieutenant in 1980.
Over the years, Greg became known as a reliable, well-respected pump operator, mentoring many of the department's new drivers. He would continue to serve as the Lt. of 8-5-3 on the old American LaFrance pumper and the new Ford E-one engine that was purchased in 1987 until he relinquished his position in 2004.
Greg was also active in the Department's First Aid/ Rescue Squad. He became an EMT in 1981 and has played an instrumental role in saving many lives.
He was honored as the co-firefighter of the year in 1992. He was honored for his actions during a dramatic rescue in which the life of a subject was saved after he had become trapped in a hole by a large stump.
As the years went on, Greg took on more of a support role in the Department. He would serve as the Fire Company’s treasurer beginning in 2005 and continue in that role for 15 years, managing the Company's finances.
He would serve on numerous committees and was always an integral part of CFD’s Famous Chicken Barbecue. Each August, he could be found working in the Pits cooking the chickens alongside many of his closest friends.
Greg would also dedicate many years of service to the North Fork Volunteer Firemen's Association, fostering camaraderie throughout the Departments in our local area. Greg worked his way up throughout the ranks of the organization, from longtime delegate to eventually serving as President in 2005 & 2006.
Greg was honored as a 50-year member in 2021 at our awards picnic.
Inspired by their grandfather, 2 of Greg's grandchildren Hannah and Alexander Boyd are both members of the Cutchogue Fire Department Juniors Program.
Greg was a friend to many and remained on the active rolls up until recently, when his health began to decline.
Funeral Arrangements are as follows:

May he rest in peace, he will be missed.
