| Area Firefighters responded to a fast moving fire that destroyed a Greenport home early Saturday morning. On Saturday at about 3:43 a.m. Cutchogue Firefighters were called to assist the Greenport Fire Department as they responded to a reported structure fire on Sage Blvd. in Greenport. Greenport FD units arrived to find a one story home, well involved with fire. The GFD Chief called for assistance from his neighboring Departments requesting additional manpower and equipment. The Cutchogue Fire Department responded with Heavy Rescue 8-5-5 with their Rapid Intervention Team, a group of specially trained firefighters who are specifically designated for the rescue of firefighters should an emergency occur at the fire scene. Once on scene Cutchogue Firefighters stood at the ready, and worked along side GFD and other neighboring fire departments helping battle the blaze in the home. Firefighters were on scene for over 2 hours battling the blaze before being released to respond to a machinery fire back home in Cutchogue. Greenport Firefighters would remain on scene throughout the morning. |
