| On Sunday Morning the members of the CFD Fire Police Squad held at special training at HQ.
With the summer season upon us, the important role of Fire Police and traffic control becomes more critical as our area sees a significant increase in population and traffic.
The Fire Police unit is responsible for securing emergency scenes, managing traffic control, and ensuring the safety of personnel and the public during incidents. They are often among the first to establish perimeters and direct traffic, allowing fire and EMS crews to operate safely and efficiently.
The training session reviewed several important topics that were included in the NYS Fire Police course. These topics included highway safety, traffic control techniques / tactics, and scene safety.
After a quick classroom discussion, the fire police squad took to the streets to practice their skills at a simulated accident scene. Crews practiced using their equipment and communication skills as they directed and detoured traffic.
The drill lasted approximately 2 hours and included 17 members of the CFD Fire Police squad.
