| On Wednesday evening during the CFD Juniors monthly meeting and training, participants had the opportunity to become familiar with Fire/Rescue boat 8-5-10.
Our boat, a 28 foot Fire-Rescue boat is docked in New Suffolk during the boating season and stands ready to respond to emergencies in the Peconic Bay.
The Juniors received an overview of the boat, including its electronics and safety equipment.
The crew also learned about the different personal protective equipment used on the boat and took part in discussions with Water Rescue Captain Tom Robbins about navigation, boat operations, and search and rescue.
The boat went underway, and the Juniors were brought out into the Bay, where they practiced using the boat’s handlines and deck gun powered by the onboard fire pump.
The CFD Juniors program is open to young residents of Cutchogue between the ages of 11 and 17.
This dynamic and interactive program introduces the youth of our community to the many aspects the Fire and EMS service with the hope that someday these youths will continue onward to become the future Volunteers serving our community.
The group meets on the 2nd Wednesday night of each month. at the Cutchogue Firehouse.
