The steady start to the New Year continued at 6:05 this morning, as CFD Firefighters responded to a Motor Vehicle accident on Moore's Lane in the area of the Southern end of North Fork Country Club.

Slippery road conditions caused a single vehicle to slide off the roadway and strike a tree head on.

The area roadways continue to remain hazardous because of high winds and blowing snow. Winds today are expected to have gusts of nearly 50 mph. with frigid wind chills, while the temperatures overnight dropped below 20 degrees causing icing conditions .

Firefighters and EMS personnel responded and treated the driver for minor injuries and transported him to Eastern Long Island Hospital for treatment.

The vehicle was checked for any hazards and was depowered by the crew of 8-5-5 before being towed from the scene. Crews would return to the warm Firehouse shortly thereafter.

This was the second call for CFD on this cold night, as they also responded for and EMS alarm on Skunk Lane just before 1 am.

Thank you to all of the Volunteers who responded in this extreme weather.

The Cutchogue Fire Department would like to remind the community to use caution and drive safely when driving in these winter conditions.
