The weekend of April 21-22nd turned out to be a busy weekend of activity for the CFD Volunteers.

Beginning on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m., as members began to assemble at the firehouse for the annual spring well pumping, Suffolk Fire Rescue (fire-com) activated the Cutchogue Fire Department for a Mutual Aid request to assist the Eastport Fire Department at the scene of a large Mulch fire.

Firefighters from throughout eastern Suffolk County were on scene since late last evening battling the fire. Cutchogue Fire department responded with one engine and manpower in order to provide relief crews to firefighters who were on scene throughout the night. CFD firefighters were on scene until 4:00 pm before being released.

Additionally, a contigent of EMS and Firepolice personell from Cutchogue provided assistance at the Line of Duty Funeral of FDNY Lt. Richard Nappi in Farmingville. (see related story) which took place in Saturday morning.

Throughout the rest of the morning, CFD firefighters who remained in town, continued to conduct the annual spring well pumping of all the fire districts fire wells.

At 12 noon, CFD took part in the first annual Mattituck-Cutchogue Little League parade held on Bay Avenue in Mattituck. Little Leaugers marched from Veterans park to the Bay Avenue Little League Fields where opening day ceremonies took place. The participants were led down the street by the Southold Town Police and Fire Trucks from Mattituck and Cutchogue Fire Departments.

On Sunday Afternoon, CFD Volunteers headed to Southold to provide coverage for the Southold Fire Department so that our fellow firefighters could attend their annual Chiefs Installation Dinner Dance.

Between at 2:00 and 8:30 pm, Cutchogue provided an Engine and Ambulance Crew that spent the afternoon at the Southold firehouse to handle any calls. Throughout the day 1 EMS call was handled by the stand-by crew.

The Officers and Members of the Cutchogue Fire Department would like to congratulate the Newly elected Chiefs of the Southold Fire Department, Chief William Byrnes, 1st Asst. Peggy Killian, and 2nd Asst. Chief Jim Rich. We wish them luck in their new positions and look forward to working with them in the future.
