| Beginning on Friday May 11th, two CFD firefighters were among 15 students that participated in a 3-day Advanced Rescue Boat Operations course hosted by the Mattituck Fire Department.
The course, was taught by Joe Mokry of Ocean Rescue Systems ( http://www.oceanrescue.com/ ) and emcompassed both classroom and extensive hand-on and underway excercises that totaled up to nearly 30 hours.
Some of the topics covered in the course included, navigation and chart plotting, search patterns, vessel construction and dynamics as well as the practical excercises that reinforced close quarters boat handling, high speed maneuvers, victim recovery, night operations, and rescue techniques to name a few.
The class concluded on Sunday afternoon after another full day of boat operations in and around Peconic Bay.
The Cutchogue Fire Department would like to thank the Mattituck Fire Department and the Commissioners of the Mattituck Fire District for hosting this valuable training class. We look forward to training with them again in the future as we prepare for the summer boating season.
Congratulations to the following Members on completing the course:
