Memorial Day 2013

May 28, 2013

On Monday morning, the members of Cutchogue Fire Department came out to honor those in the United States Armed Forces who gave up their lives for our country.

The officers & members of the CFD, the CFD Marching Band, Ladies Auxiliary, and CFD Juniors, marched through the streets of Greenport as participants in the Annual Southold Town Memorial Day Parade.

The parade began at 10 AM at "Steamboat Corner" in Greenport and included Veterans of the United States Armed Forces, various school and community groups, and many of our local fire departments. There were crowds of spectators along the route, many waving small flags and applauding as the participants marched by. The parade continued through Main Street and Front Street and concluded at the Greenport Fire House on Third Street.

Just Before the parade stepped off, a ceremony was held at the War Memorial to remember and pay tribute to the brave men and women of the US Military who gave their lives so we may continue to enjoy the freedoms of our country.

During the parade, CFD had the honor of helping to welcome home a local Marine, Lance Corporal Keith Berezny who returned home earlier this weekend from a 6 month deployment.

Keith joined his younger brother Timmy and sister Sarah who are both CFD Junior Firefighters at the parade. Lance Corporal Berezny had the honor of riding in the Chief's Vehicle during the parade, a vehicle that coincidentally displays the USMC "globe and anchor" everyday in recognition of Chief Antone Berkoski's service in the Marine Corp.

The parade paused momentarily at the intersection of Third and Front St. where Lance Corporal Berezny exited the vehicle to the suprise of his wife Mallory who was unknowingly watching the parade with other family members.

The Officers and Members of the Cutchogue Fire Department would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all Veterans of our Nations Armed Forces. Your devotion to your Country and its Citizens is forever appreciated.

After the parade, the members of the CFD returned to the firehouse to enjoy an old fashioned barbecue with friends and families.
