It is with great pride that the Cutchogue Fire Department announces that two of its longtime firefighters have been chosen as Co-Grand Marshals of the 2014 Cutchogue St. Patrick’s Day parade that will be held this Saturday March 15th.

This week, the official announcement was made by the Parade Committee and the North Fork Chamber of Commerce that Cutchogue firefighters, Ex-Chiefs, Everett and Allan Glover, will serve as this year’s Grand Marshals.

The brothers have been involved with the community and the fire department for many years. It is fitting they are both being honored at the same time.

Evie and Allan are both third generation CFD firefighters and have been active volunteers for over 50 years, joining a year apart from each other. Allan was honored as a 50 year member last year, while Evie will be honored in 2014.

Both served as Chief of the Cutchogue Fire Department in the mid 80s, serving together in the chiefs line. Evie was chief in 1983-84, while brother Allan followed in 1987-88.

Despite over 50 years of volunteering, their dedication and desire to help hasn’t gone away. Both remain among CFD’s most active responders and can be seen on any given day driving the ambulance or fire engine to any of the department’s nearly 500 calls we respond to each year.

Both men are also an important part of the Department’s annual chicken barbecue,

Evie is among the men who help to make our barbecue chicken what is. He is among the few senior men who protect the closely guarded “secret recipe” and works among the smoke to ensure that the chicken is cooked to perfection.

Allan is a local business owner who operates a trucking company, A.W. Glover Trucking. He has, for many years, provided a refrigerated tractor trailer for the department’s use during the barbecue while also assisting in acquiring the needed fruits and vegetables for the event.

Being a part of the community and giving back is important to both men.

Throughout the years, Allan also has made his trucks available for the community, providing the reviewing stand for the St. Patrick’s Day parade since its inception and has made his refrigerated trailers available for the community’s use during times of disaster, such as Hurricane Gloria and most recently Hurricane Sandy.

Evie recently retired from serving the Town of Southold as a member of the Highway Department. He can be seen every holiday season spreading joy to the children of the community as he plays Santa Claus for CFD and many other local groups within our town. This is a position that he truly takes great pride and enjoyment in.

The chief officers and fellow members of the Cutchogue Fire Department join together with the community to congratulate both Evie and Allan on their selection as the 2014 Grand Marshals of Cutchogue’s St. Patrick Day parade.

We look forward to honoring you this weekend.

Congratulations from CFD.
