On Saturday April 5th a contingent fo CFD Firefighters travelled to the NYS State Property in Ridge to complete part 3 of the newly developed NYS Brush truck training program.

This new course was developed to better train Long Island Firefighters in battling fires in the pine barrens and areas unique to our region. The new course was introduced last year in response to a series of large wildfires on Long Island in 2012.

The course consited of 2 days of classroom instruction held at the Suffolk County Fire Academy and concluded Saturday with a third portion that consisted of Hand-on training.

On Saturday the crew of CFD's Brush truck 8-5-12 spent the day driving off road though a series of trails in the woods that focused on navigation through several obstacles and reinforces the tactics taught in the course.

CFD was among numerous Departments that would complete the training on both Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
