On Thursday February 19th, CFD Firefighters gathered at the firehouse for the Department's monthly training night.

This month's training focused on search and rescue techniques as well as several R.I.T. (Rapid Intervention Team) scenarios.

During the scenarios, the teams affected the rescue and removal of a downed firefighter from the building during a simulated "mayday" situation.

Firefighters also practiced and preparing for performing CPR on a downed or collapsed freighter. Teams practiced removing a firefighter from his SCBA and turnout gear in order to properly render life saving treatment.

A Rapid Intervention Team is comprised of members who have received special training in firefighter rescue. The team stands-by at the fire scene, in the event that a firefighter becomes trapped or in distress.

The Rapid Intervention Team routinely responds to assist our neighboring departments at structure fires throughout the township as part of a mutual aid policy.

This training session is the latest example of how the Cutchogue Fire Department is committed to ensuring that our firefighters are prepared for any emergency they may face.

The drills lasted for over 2 hours.
