Mutual Aid to Mattituck FD - Afternoon Structure Fire

Shortly after noon on Firday, the Cutchogue Fire Department was dispatched to assist the Mattituck Fire Department at the scene of a working Structure fire on Westphalia Road, in Mattituck.

Mattituck FD units under the direction of Chief Erick Haas arrived to find a fire in a 2 story home. The fire, originally reported as a dryer fire quickly spread to the laundry room and first floor of the home.

The Cutchogue Fire Dept. was requested to respond to the scene with a Rapid Intervention Team. (R.I.T.).

CFD firefighters aboard Heavy Rescue 8-5-5 made the response.

Once on scene CFD firefighters stood by on scene as the Rapid Intervention Team in the event of any firefighter emergencies. Once the fire was knocked down CFD firefighters provided relief crews and assisted with the extensive overhaul attempting to locate any remaining fire and hot spots.

The Jamesport Fire Department also provided assistance at the scene and the Southold FD provided standby coverage at the Mattituck Firehouse.

The occupants of the home were home at the time of the fire and were able to escape the blaze once it was discovered. One of the homeowners and a neighbor were both injured while trying to control the fire prior to the fire Departments arrival. Both were transported to a local hospital for evaluation..

CFD Firefighters operated for over One hour before being released.
