On Thursday night members of CFD, along with other Southold Town Firefighters gathered at the Cutchogue Fire house for a special training session offered by the Suffolk County Transit.

The training covered how to properly respond to emergencies that may involve the public transit buses used in our area.

Buses were on hand for the attendees to better understand the special challenges they may pose.

Of special importance was the familiarization of the new fleet of Hybrid / electric powered of buses.

These new buses require special safety considerations when involved in accidents. Transit staff and bus drivers showed firefighters the emergency shut off switches, battery and wire locations throughout the bus as well as best practices for gaining entry.

Also on hand was a handicapped accessible bus where attendees were show the operation of a wheelchair lift, and means of securing the chairs in the bus.

The training lasted approximately an hour and a half.

The Cutchogue Fire Department would like to thank the staff at Suffolk County Transit for offering this valuable training.
