December 3, 2018

On Monday afternoon at about 1:00 p.m., the Cutchogue Fire Department was requested to assist the Orient Fire Department at the scene of a working house fire at 2360 Greenway East, in Orient.

CFD firefighters responded as part of mutual aid requests that included responses from all of the 8th division mainland departments from Mattituck to Orient.

Orient FD was battling a house fire that originally began on the exterior wall of the home before extending to the other areas of the home. Firefighters were able to stop the blaze limiting the damages to only a portion of the home.

The Cutchogue FD was requested to assist at the scene with a Rapid Intervention Team (R.I.T.) in the event of any firefighter emergencies. The crew made the nearly 16 mile response aboard Heavy Rescue truck 8-5-5.

Once on scene CFD firefighters stood by while other North Fork firefighters were over hauling the home.

Crews were on scene for approximatley an hour before returning home.

Firefighters from Orient, East Marion, Greenport, Southold & Cutchogue responded to the scene while the Mattituck FD stood by at the East Marion firehouse in the event of any other calls.

The cause of the fire was under investigation by the Suffolk County Police Arson Squad and the Southold Town Police and is believed to be electrical in nature.
