Obituary as Provided by Defriest-Grattan Funeral Home:

Life-long Cutchogue resident Joan Ann Lademann passed away peacefully on May 2, 2019 at the age of 85.

Joan was born on March 17, 1934 to Anna (nee Zaneski) and William T. Remski. She attended Cutchogue Grammar School and graduated valedictorian of Mattituck High School in June of 1952.

She married John M. Lademann on January 24, 1953, and the couple recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in Aruba as they have done for the past 24 years.

Joan was secretary to her husband’s electrical business for 18 years while her children were young. She then returned to employment with the Suffolk County Department of Social Services for several years before starting her 28-year career as guidance secretary at Mattituck High School. In addition to sending out endless college applications each year, she was a very dedicated employee and touched the lives of so many co-workers and students alike.

She was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed spending family time together. Her hobbies were many, although she loved to can and freeze her home-grown vegetables and fruit. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, jumble, watching Who wants to be a Millionaire and watching the Met’s games on TV.

Joan was a very active 60-year member in the Cutchogue Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and also was a past president of both the auxiliary and Our Lady of Ostrabrama Rosary Society.

In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by five children, John E. Lademann (Kathy), Patricia Mudd (Stephen), William T. Lademann (Denise), Thomas Lademann (Sherri), Michael Lademann (Maureen). Also surviving are her 11 grandchildren, Erin Lademann, Nicole Mudd Helf (John), Stephen T. Mudd (Jen), Brienne Lademann Stein (Dan), Brendan Lademann, Jason Lademann, Casey Lademann Morrison (Sam), Haley Lademann, Jeffrey Lademann, Ryan Lademann and Tyler Lademann (Kyleen); and five great-grandchildren, Anna Mudd, Johnny, Brett and William Helf and Prentice Lademann.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 8th from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday morning, May 9th at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Ostrabrama Roman Catholic Church in Cutchogue, officiated by Father Mariusz Gorazd. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Cutchogue Fire Department, 260 New Suffolk Lane, Cutchogue, New York 11935 would be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
