November 3, 2019

On November 2nd the Stony Brook University Hospital hosted a special training seminar at the Cutchogue Fire Department for local EMS Providers form around the area.

This seminar was devoted to updating EMS providers in the best practices related to Trauma, Opioid Abuse, Airway Management and the appropriate Utilization of Helicopters for Patient Transport in Suffolk County.

Presenters included several Doctors and experts in the field of medicine and emergency care.

The seminar concluded with a presentation and visit from the Suffolk County Police Aviation Unit that landed on the Fire Department Grounds.

Over 30 EMS providers from throughout the area attended the seminar that afforded them valuable information and continuing education credits (CME) toward their re certification.

The Officers and Members of the Cutchogue Fire Department would like to Thank the Staff of Stony Brook Hospital for providing this valuable training.

In 2016 Stony Brook University, Eastern Long Island Hopital began staffing Paramedic First Responder cars in the 8th Division to assist the local EMS Agencies.

This seminar is the latest in a series of new endeavors by Stony Brook Hospital & ELIH in support of the Emergency Medical Services on North Fork.

We a proud of our partnership and look forward to other training opportunities.

Ironically, later in the day, EMT's used the knowledge the had learned earlier and would call upon the helicopter to transport a stroke patient to Stony Brook Univeristy Hospital for care.
