On Thursday evening at 8:13 p.m. the Cutchogue Fire Department along with other area departments were called to assist the Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps.with the evacuation of over 40 residents following a fire in a group home.
Earlier in the evening at 6:16 p.m. the Riverhead Fire Department along with the Riverhead Ambulance responded to a structure fire in a large group home on west main Street in Riverhead and were still on scene.
The fire was contained to bedroom, however smoke and water damage from the sprinkler system caused the building to be unlivable until repairs could be made.
This would require the evacuation of all of the residents to an off site location. Several North Fork Departments along with the American Red Cross were called to assist with this task that was coordinated by staff from Riverhead Ambulance.
Both the Cutchogue Fire Department and Southold Fire Department were special called to the scene with their personnel transport vehicles (buses) to transport the residents, while the Mattituck FD stood by the scene with an ambulance providing EMS support.
CFD & SFD buses arrived on scene and would assist in the evacuation and transport 31 of the residents to a local hotel
