CFD Responds to Brush fire in Mattituck

On Monday afternoon at approximatley 3:00 pm the Cutchogue Fire Department was requested to assist the Mattituck Fire Department with a brush truck at the scene of a brush fire to the rear of homes on Sigsbee Rd..

Mattituck firefighters located the fire in a wooded area west of Sigsbee in an a location where there was limited access by normal vehicles.

CFD was requested to respond and access the area using their 6x6 Brush Truck, 8-5-12.

Due to the dry weather, the fire was growing rapidly and was spreading towards homes on Sigsbee Rd.

Firefighters from Mattituck, attacked the fire from the neighboring yards, while Brush Trucks from the Cutchogue Fire Department and Riverhead Fire Department were able to navigate through the brush and woods to the attack the quickly moving fire.

Additional Engines from Cutchogue and Jamesport FD were requested to the scene and assisted in extinguishing the fire.

The fire burned over 2 acres of woods and brush before being extinquished.

Crews were on scene for approximately 2 hours.
