On Friday evening around 9:40 p.m. the Cutchogue Fire Department was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle accident on State Route 25 near Bridge Lane in Cutchogue.

Police and Fire Department units arrived to discover a single vehicle accident in which a car had left the roadway, struck a mailbox and rolled over, coming to rest on it's side.

There was 1 occupant in the vehicle who was partially ejected and and trapped under part of the vehicle. First arriving responders were able to quickly free him and begin treatment.

Because of the nature of the accident a Suffolk County Police Medivac helicopter was requested to transport the patient to Stony Brook Univeristy Hospital.

The patient was treated by CFD Rescue Squad members and was transported by ambulance to the Cutchogue Fire House grounds where he was transferred to the arriving police helicopter.

Additional CFD firefighters checked the vehicle for any hazards and stood by on scene for approximately 1 hour until the vehicle could be removed from the roadway.
