The proceeds from the event are donated to the Greenport Fire Department in appreciation for their continued dedication to the community.
As part of the event, several fire safety displays and demonstrations took place over the course of the morning, in a block party type atmosphere. Food and refreshments were served and entertainment was provided by a Carribean Band.
CFD's fire prevention trailer was on hand for the children of the community to learn about the many dangers in the home. The fire prevention trailer, was jointly purchased in 2003 by the Mattituck and Cutchogue Fire Districts and has become an important component of our fire prevention programs.
Members of CFD's Fire Prevention Committee spent the morning speaking to the children, and handed out free t-shirts and fire prevention materials to everyone who visited the trailer.
CFD's Sparky the Firedog was also on hand to meet the children and be part of the days festivities.
The highlight of the morning was a special awards ceremony. The ceremony was attended by several local dignitaries and Peconic Landing Staff. Awards were presented to the race winners as well as a special presentation made to the Greenport FD. A check in the amount of $15,000 dollars was presented to GFD Chief John Grilli on behalf of Peconic Landing in recognition of the GFD Volunteers service to the communty.
Thank you to the Greenport Fire Department and Peconic Landing for inviting us to be a part of this special day.
The Officers and Members of the Cutchogue Fire Department would like to thank Peconic Landing for their continued support of our Volunteer Firefighters throughout Southold Town. |
