On Saturday September 11th, members of the Cutchogue Fire Department attended the annual Southold Town Fire Chiefs Council September 11th remembrance ceremony.

The ceremony which is organized by the Southold Town Fire Chiefs Council is held each year at the Southold Town 9-11 and Fallen Firefighters Memorial located in Cochran Park in Peconic.

Representatives from Fire Departments throughout the township and community members participated in the ceremony led by Council President Frank Thorpe and Chaplin Thomas Roslak who serves CFD & Chiefs Council in that capacity

In honor of those who were lost, a memorial wreath was placed at the memorial by the officers of the Fire Chiefs Council.

Following the ceremony, participants were encouraged to spend time at memorial and sea of flags and privately reflect upon the effects of that day.

The sea of flags was created by nearly 3000 American Flags that were placed at the memorial earlier in the day as part of a community remembrance ceremony. The flags represent all who lost their lives on that day.

The Firefighters Memorial was officially dedicated in 2012 came to fruition following the addition of the "Morning Call" sculpture to the Cochran Park on Peconic in 2011, which is a memorial to the victims of September 11th.

Following the placement of the Osprey, the idea arose to encompass the statue with the Firefighters Memorial and create a "Heroes Plaza" memorializing Southold Town's Fallen Firefighters as well as the victims of September 11th that included FDNY firefighters, emergency workers and innocent civilians.

Each year since the memorials dedication dedication, the Town Fire Departments have gathered as a group to reflect on the events of September 11th 2001.

We encourage the community to take the time to visit the memorial.
